The red clamp is actually called a casing elevator. There are two small hard faced points on each side and when it is lifted it squeezes harder on the casing pretty much pinching it in place. Your shackles will probably get used up to 500' of 6" casing. 3/4" is a standard size easy to work with. My job does not exist without shackles. From lifting casing to running my tail out line to my trailer I use them a lot.
